When passions meet:

I am very happy and proud to announce that I am the first artist endorsing the Weinberger "Passion" Grand Piano worldwide.

In 2001, Bruno Weinberger started to build his own pianos. His first was the "Vision One", followed by "Education" and "Friend". I was one of the people who encouraged him to stretch out and build his own grand piano. Bruno is one of the rare people who think, say and act congruently. Who has high quality standards and moves every stone to make his visions come true. So the result is here now, the brand new Weinberger "Passion". Bruno asked me if I wanted to endorse it and I agreed - with passion!

I arrived at Bruno Weinberger's Piano House in Enns, Austria, on May 24th 2004 and fell in love with the design, proportions and unique sound of the "Passion" Baby Grand, which is on the way to cross the Atlantic to arrive in my new home in South Park Slope, Brooklyn. Technically, the Passion has innovations that are unique. They have a direct impact on the instrument's appearance, sound and interaction with the musician. It sounds like no other instrument in its category- it has character, ethereal strength and earthbound stamina. I am hot about its design, proportions and rich sound. The sexiest baby grand I ever had my hands on. You play it and something just "opens up" energetically in the room in and around you. This is a sign of a truly great instrument and also evidence that the player and the instrument are a good match.

It is wonderful when high goals are reached. Also, when a friendship produces great results over the years. I am committed to promoting this instrument which shall become a huge success for everyone who is involved with it. This beauty of an instrument stands for the love for music, the boldness of following one's own destiny, being true to high aesthetic standards, weaving dreams and making them come true on this plane.

The Weinberger "Passion"- the first one in the United States- can be visited soon at my residence in New York City: Request an appointment.

Recordings of my new CD "S P A C E" with Chris Minh Doky, bass (r) and Ian Froman, drums (m) at Focus Recording, Copenhagen. Engineer Hans Nielsen.

Currently the masters are rough mixed. I am in the process of booking concerts in NYC and Europe and finding partners for a record deal reflecting the high level of the recordings.

Jan 04

I am composing the orchestra score for "Via Emilia", a brilliant new play written and performed by Günther PAAL (GUNKL). I will conduct and play the piano.

The story of "Sleeping Beauty"

In November 1999, in an old house in England, a single page of a string quartet fragment was found. According to Sotheby's, Richard Ford, (1796-1858), a noted author travelled to Vienna where he met Ludwig van Beethoven in 1817.

The composer gave the young traveller a manuscript of a string quartet which is inscribed by Ford: “This quartette was composed for me in my presence by Ludwig v. Beethoven at Vienna Friday 28th November 1817 Richard Ford.” Dr Stephen Roe, Head of Sotheby’s Books and Manuscripts department, said: “The discovery of any new, previously unknown work by Beethoven is extraordinary. Nowhere is it mentioned in the extensive literature on the composer. The appearance of a new work by Beethoven at auction is almost certainly without precedent in modern times. Beethoven is the greatest composer of string quartets.” The short piece is in Beethoven’s mature hand, and unusually for the composer, is written in B minor.

The four beginnning notes of that fragment immediately inspired me to write "Sleeping Beauty", the piece expressing my relationship to Beethoven. A solo piano version is on my record "Beyond Black & White".
